A simple ‘Ditty’ to a Remarkable Lady
To help raise awareness for ‘Breakthrough Breast Cancer’
(see note below poem also)
My Friend Jayne
I have a friend and her name is Jayne
During the summer last year & without any pain,
Poor Jayne found that she had a lump under her arm,
Thinking nothing, she got it checked; believing no harm.
The doctor was proficient and called for immediate tests
I guess without me saying you can guess the rest?
The test came back that she had a cancerous tumour
Her world went into turmoil, she could see little humour.
Her family holiday to Italy that was due the next day
Had to be cancelled, how could they go away?
It had spread to the lymph gland, but let’s hope and pray for the best
Immediately they operated, believing it to be a success!
Further tests diagnosed they had miraculously succeeded
But aggressive chemotherapy followed, lots of bed rest was needed
Now dear Jayne has been such an inspiration to all
Through thick and thin she has managed to hold her head tall
When the hair started to go, there were tears all around
She muddled through bravely without making a sound
We all thought she cut an incredible figure
But knew deep inside it took strength and great vigour
At Christmas Jayne came to my house with Champagne,
I refused to open it till she could drink the same
So it sits in my cabinet awaiting the day
When Jayne can join me for a drink and we’ll shout hip hooray!
For the cancer will be just a thing of the past
So long to that memory and let’s hope good health will last!
Kate Davis-Homes creator of http://kateonthinice.wordpress.com has made a special appeal for 90 bloggers to write about an important woman in their life in 90 words and link up their posts using the linky code on her post. The post can be about any woman that matters to you, a grandmother, a mum, a daughter, a friend, a blogger a boss, whoever you wish.
So why 90 words? This is because there are 90 numbers in a game of bingo. This is relevant because Pink Ribbon Bingo have pledged to support Breakthough Breast Cancer all year round with 15% of the gross revenue accrued through online play on the site being donated to the charity. Visitors also have the opportunity to donate a percentage of their winnings directly to the charity.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is, in their own words, “dedicated to saving lives by finding the cause of breast cancer, improving detection, diagnosis, treatment and services”. There’s a wealth of information of their website, including everything you need to know to be breast aware. In fact, did you know there’s a free iPhone app called “ibreastcheck”, which includes a video showing you ho to check your breasts and the facility to set a self-check reminder so you can monitor any changes in your own breasts? I didn’t.
